As many of you know, I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for the rights and protection of vulnerable individuals, particularly those affected by forced marriage, honour-based abuse, and child sexual exploitation. I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing issue of grooming gangs and the devastating impact they have on young lives.
That’s why I’m encouraged by the recent discussion on Times Radio regarding the urgent need for a new grooming scandal inquiry. This isn’t just about revisiting past failures; it’s about safeguarding our children’s future.
This inquiry is vital because:
- It focuses on the protection of young girls, who are disproportionately targeted by these horrific crimes.
- It emphasizes the importance of empowering victims to speak out. We must create an environment where they feel safe and supported to report abuse without fear of reprisal.
- By identifying and understanding the current trends in grooming and exploitation, we can develop more effective strategies for prevention and intervention.
I firmly believe that silence is no longer an option. We must confront these issues head-on and hold perpetrators accountable. This inquiry is a crucial step towards achieving that goal.
"Where we are seeing trends, we must not be afraid to call it out."
