Jasvinder Sanghera's Unwavering Commitment to Justice as an Expert Witness

Jasvinder acts as an expert witness to the Courts and has been instructed to conduct Independent Reviews related to murder cases and suicides of South Asian women. This included acting as the independent expert in the case for the mental health legacy review of Navjit Sidhu who committed suicide with both of her children.

She was awarded Legal Campaigner of the Year  in 2014 in recognition of her tireless campaigning to criminalise forced marriage. She has provided compelling evidence based on her expertise in both family related  and criminal proceedings providing expert evidence and cultural risk assessments, reports and is an accredited Chair for Domestic Homicide Reviews. Jasvinder’s evidence has been tested in the Court of Appeal case of B-M Children 2009 and Lord Justice Wall cited extensively from this evidence stating it to be ‘impressive and compelling’ and how she speaks from the professional experience of being involved in numerous cases.

Jasvinder’s work is highly acclaimed and she has extensive experience of working with victims. She has provided expert evidence and reports for a range of professionals including CAFCASS, solicitors, barristers and judges.

B-M (Children) [2009] EWCA Civ 205

Jasvinder was the leading Expert Witness in first case that led to a criminal conviction of a mother who had forced her child to marry. Instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service, she provided compelling evidence which informed the Courts of an honour system and the victim’s life within it.

Jasvinder's expert opinion has been requested within the following scenarios: this list is not exhaustive

Application of a family contesting a Forced Marriage Protection Order, requesting it be removed.

Assessments related to both men and women at potential risk of forced marriage, honour abuse systems and FGM.
