We are honored to announce that Dame Jasvinder Sanghera DBE will be delivering the prestigious Mary Seacole Lecture at this year’s Royal College of Nursing (RCN) annual conference in Liverpool.
In a session titled “Breaking the Silence,” Dame Jasvinder will tackle one of the most pressing yet misunderstood issues in modern safeguarding: forced marriage.
A Shift in Perspective
Dame Jasvinder’s message is clear: forced marriage is not a tradition; it is a safeguarding issue. As a survivor herself and the founder of the charity Karma Nirvana, she has spent decades advocating for victims of honor-based abuse.
For nursing and healthcare professionals, this lecture offers a critical opportunity to learn how to identify the signs of coercion and provide the necessary support to those at risk.
“To treat forced marriage as a cultural practice is to ignore the human rights violations at its core. It is a matter of protection, intervention, and safety.”
